What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a form of treatment that assists in the recovery of injured soft tissue and bones. It enhances and restores mobility and function and speeds recovery time through the use of manual therapies, electro-modalities, exercise and education. Physiotherapy aims to identify and treat the problem. It then establishes a process through which the possibility of re- injury is minimized while function and mobility are maximized. The necessary tools are provided so that each individual can achieve a healthy and more consistently active lifestyle. Physiotherapy is commonly used in the treatment of injuries caused by motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports, repetitive strains, spinal disc degeneration, osteo-arthritis, poor posture and biomechanics, and post surgery. However, it is also effective for the treatment of pain and disabilities associated with fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, chronic headaches, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal cord injury and Parkinson's disease.
Preliminary sessions involve a comprehensive assessment, which maps out the anatomy of the problem. This takes into account the cause of the ailment as well as any contributing biomechanical, postural and lifestyle factors. Subsequent sessions endeavor to develop a treatment plan that acknowledges the goals of both the client and therapist. Ongoing sessions are aimed at treatment and prevention of the problem through the use of education, empowerment of the affected individual, and ongoing feedback between client and therapist |
